Edible love letters?

Learned something new today.

Kueh kapit (also spelled kuih kapek) is a thin, crisp cookie emblazoned with auspicious words and symbols. Also known as love letters, kueh kapit takes an inordinate amount of effort to make, and is thus only prepared during Chinese New Year. For many people, though, the wait is worth it.

Actually, from what I can see, it is available more or less all year round these days.

ps. Will try to find a photo of this some time later.

Free content management softwares

I have been down that road before. I mean, even now, from time to time I still get the urge to completely replace what I have now – WordPress – with something that seems more interesting! Well, for people in the market for a content management system to manage their new websites, the folks at Linux Links have compiled the following lists which are very, very useful.

Make peace

“To have peace, give peace.
To be happy, make happy.
To feel loved, love.

This is very simple and is a part of all the world’s inspired teachings. But it cannot be understood by a mind that refuses to pause.”

Complacent

As the saying goes, “use it or lose it.”

The “it” I am referring to is a hunger for challenge or knowledge. I suspect that the more we become complacent, the less we are willing to take risks – consequently, less chance to grow and become better than what we were.

Time for a change?

Memory

It used to be that having a good memory was a good thing. You can, for example, do well in exams, dazzle people with obscure facts and figures, or simply have a better handle on things because it’s easier to mentally associate many ideas and concepts if they can actually be recalled. Unfortunately this also means ghosts from the past cannot be easily shaken off.

Faye Wong 約定

Happened to come across this MTV on youtube tonight – in fact this was the first time I had seen the MTV or the lyrics. This was one of my favourite songs during my PhD days. Really brings back many memories from my trip to Europe, although this song always made me feel homesick at the time…
