Just noticed that (via the wonders of RSS feed!) ScriptyGoddess has been collecting links to some online tutorials for learning about web stuff recently. This was also one of my aims with the links in the navigation menu on the right, when viewing the Blogging Category archive, but I guess you can never be too comprehensive!?
More actions
“Action springs not from thought, but from a readiness for responsibilities.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
After I submitted this quote, I decided to find out a bit more about who this guy (yes, it’s a He by the way) was since the name was not familiar. It turned out Dietrich of German origin was quite a spiritual leader/writer in his day, and he died at the age of 39. This last fact is significant because he was hanged in a concentration camp for his role in the resistance movement to the Nazi regime at the time.
Judgement day
Amazing words from an amazing lady.
“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done.
We will be judged by ‘I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.’
Hungry not only for bread – but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing – but naked of human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a home of bricks – but homeless because of rejection.”
Mother Teresa
Actions and possibilities
When opportunities arise, it is up to each and every one of us to make the best of it.
“You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however.”
Richard Bach
Copyright abuse
Read (this link will be no longer active once the offending materials have been removed) this morning that a certain Chinese website PConline.com.cn has been blatantly abusing copyright by copying verbatim (well, actually, the contents had been translated into Chinese) the review materials from Digital Photography Review, a site that I often go to learn about the latest in digital cameras. While I have been guilty from time to time of using copyrighted pics of movies or book covers, this is just too much!
Movie marathon: post-mortem
Happy to say that I survived the marathon! Although I did not win any prizes at the end of the contest, it was quite enjoyable and challenging. 🙂
Slightly to my surprise, I managed to stay awake for all 8 movies without needing to heavily dose up on coffee. For me, the toughest period was from 5 – 9am (just after the 5th movie). Actually, had a Red Bull on Saturday afternoon, and the organisers did give out a canned coffee on the bus, but, honestly, it was nothing more than coffee-flavoured water.
Movie marathon
Was informed yesterday that I won a company lucky draw (actually you needed to answer some questions to be qualified for the draw) to attend a movie marathon this coming weekend: 3pm Saturday to 3pm Sunday!

Memorable: Ender's Game
To continue the <a href="”>previous post on novel series which I really enjoyed, another one which deserves mention is Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card.
While I don’t quite remember when I first picked up the this book – probably the second or third year during my undergraduate studies – I can recall vividly how emotionally I got involved while reading this book at the time. The action, the pace, the pain and toll of intensive training on a child, the loneliness of having no equals among your peers, and the realisation of having single-handedly annihilated an entire alien race, the list goes on.
Collective mind
Was in the middle of a searching online when I stumbled on to Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia. The significance and the magnitude of this project can only be grasped once you realise that the contributions to this great body of knowledge all come from ordinary people who venture on to the electronic realm – in short, people like you and me.
Never ending…
“Think not to settle down forever in any truth. Make use of it as a tent in which to pass a summer’s night but build no house of it, or it will be your tomb. When you first have an inkling of its insufficiency and begin to see a dim counter-truth looming up beyond, then weep not, but give thanks. It is time to ‘take up your bed and walk.'”
A. J. Balfour
